We are designed to garden.
It might sound like a bold statement, but I believe it's profoundly true. When we look back to the very beginning of human existence, we find our original purpose written in Genesis 2:15: "Then the Lord took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it." This isn't just a historical footnote – it's a blueprint for human connection with the earth.
The tragic irony of our modern existence is that we've drifted from our initial calling. We've become disconnected from the soil, from the rhythms of growth, and from the simple act of nurturing life. But what if gardening is more than just a hobby? What if it's a pathway to healing – physically, mentally, and spiritually?
My journey with gardening has been transformative. It's not just about growing vegetables or creating beautiful landscapes. It's about reconnecting with something fundamental to our human experience. Every seed planted, every row tended, is an act of restoration – both for the earth and for ourselves.
That's why I founded Southern Cultivation. My mission is simple: to help people rediscover their innate ability to cultivate, to nurture, to create life from seemingly barren ground. It's about stepping back into a calling that is as old as humanity itself.
But our responsibility extends beyond our personal garden plots. Gardening becomes a gateway to a deeper environmental stewardship. It teaches us to love and preserve the incredible planet we've been entrusted with. This might mean reducing plastic use, choosing a bicycle over a car, or simply taking the time to pick up trash along the roadside.
As Christians, we have a unique calling to be stewards of creation. We're not just passive inhabitants, but active caretakers. Our gardens become a living testament to God's creative power – a small piece of Eden we can cultivate right in our own backyards.
So I invite you: Pick up a trowel. Plant a seed. Reconnect with the earth. Your garden is waiting, and so is your original calling.
Let's cultivate something beautiful together.
